CHAS 37th Annual Charity Golf Classic
Proceeds of the tournament will go towards a LITT (Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy) therapy equipment.
With this equipment, surgeons will be able to perform a revolutionary procedure on kids and adults with epilepsy to stop seizures. In this life-changing surgery, a laser probe is placed into a deep target within the brain through a millimeter-sized incision. The probe then heats up and destroys the tissue responsible for causing the seizures.
In the past, children required a much more invasive and frightening procedure to achieve the same results. Length of hospital stay and complication rates will be reduced substantially. With these benefits in mind, parents are more likely to consider this surgical option to improve their child’s quality of life.
The new LITT therapy equipment will be located at the Foothills Hospital and jointly funded by ACHF and the Calgary Health Trust.
