I Can for Kids

At CHAS, we believe in the power of community and the importance of giving back. That’s why we were incredibly proud to support I Can for Kids with a $10,000 donation in October—an amount that was generously matched by another donor. This contribution allowed I Can for Kids to provide 420 grocery gift cards to food-insecure families across Calgary, directly impacting approximately 1,200 children over the past four months.

Food insecurity is a pressing issue that affects far too many children and families in our community. The ability to access nutritious food with dignity can make all the difference in a child's well-being, development, and future. Through our donation, we helped strengthen vital connections between families and frontline agencies, fostering trust and resilience across the community.

In 2024, I Can for Kids reached its largest number of children yet—over 41,500—through its grocery gift card program. This initiative extends beyond just food; it provides relief to children and parents facing additional challenges such as mental health struggles, disabilities, injuries, and chronic conditions. The impact of this support is profound, helping families weather unexpected crises like sudden unemployment, rent increases, and housing instability.

CHAS is honored to stand alongside I Can for Kids in their mission. We are also excited to see the program expand. In January 2025, I Can for Kids launched a new partnership with McMan Central to extend its reach into rural communities across central Alberta, ensuring that families with limited resources receive the support they need.

The Kids We Helped:

·       16% have a physical disability

·       30% struggle with poor mental health

·       25% live with a neurological condition

The Parents We Supported:

·       19% live with a physical disability

·       42% struggle with their mental health

·       67% are raising their kids alone

The Families We Empowered:

·       56% are born in Canada

·       27% have Indigenous heritage

·       44% are Newcomers to Canada

We at CHAS take great pride in supporting initiatives that create meaningful, lasting change. Every grocery gift card distributed represents more than just food—it symbolizes hope, stability, and the power of community support. We look forward to continuing our partnership with I Can for Kids and making a difference in the lives of children and families who need it most.

Thank you to everyone who contributes to this important cause. Together, we are building a stronger, healthier, and more resilient community!
