HonoUring the Legacy of Rob Laidlaw: A True Champion for CHAS and Our Community

The Calgary community mourns the loss of Rob Laidlaw, a beloved supporter of the Children’s Hospital Aid Society (CHAS) for over 15 years. Rob’s unwavering dedication, generosity, and kindness left an indelible mark, not just on CHAS but on countless children and families whose lives were profoundly enriched through his efforts.

A Life of Dedication and Generosity

Rob Laidlaw’s contributions to CHAS reflect a family tradition of service and community. His father, Bob Laidlaw, a past President of the Calgary Stampede, and his mother, Esther Laidlaw, a dedicated member of CHAS, instilled in Rob a deep commitment to giving back. Rob carried their legacy forward, becoming a cornerstone of support for CHAS through his leadership and generosity.

From his role as an Executive of Acumen Partners, Rob used his influence to inspire others, creating opportunities to blend fun and philanthropy. One of his most notable contributions was the Acumen Best Damn Stampede Party, held each year on the eve of Stampede Week.

The Best Damn Stampede Party: A Celebration with Purpose

In 2010, Rob and his wife Joyce, a longtime member of CHAS, partnered with CHAS after being persuaded by their friend Dorothy Woolstencroft, a CHAS Honorary Life Member. That first year raised over $26,000 for CHAS.

The partnership blossomed further in 2011, when Rob made CHAS the sole beneficiary of the party’s proceeds. Rob personally covered all expenses, including the barbecue and beverages, ensuring that 100% of donations supported CHAS’s vital work. His dedication extended beyond financial contributions, as he and his family—Joyce, Alex, and Ryan—worked tirelessly to manage invitations, logistics, and ticket sales. What started as a celebration for clients and friends grew into one of Calgary’s most anticipated events, raising over $1.46 million for CHAS over the years.

Rob’s parents, Bob and Esther, supported the party for many years, donating generously and attending to show their unwavering commitment to CHAS. This tradition of family involvement underscored the deep-rooted values the Laidlaws upheld. For over a decade, the party became a vibrant celebration of community spirit, bringing people together to kick off Stampede Week while supporting a meaningful cause.

A Broader Impact

Rob’s generosity didn’t stop at the Stampede Party. His involvement in the CHAS Annual Charity Golf Classic further demonstrated his dedication to giving back. Rob's warmth, compassion, and ability to bring people together inspired all who knew him. He made everyone feel valued, remembering names and cherishing relationships.

Rob’s contributions to CHAS and the broader community will continue to make a meaningful difference for generations. His legacy serves as a reminder of what can be achieved when generosity and compassion are at the heart of our actions.

A Legacy That Shines On

As we reflect on Rob’s extraordinary contributions, we are reminded of his unwavering dedication to making the world a better place. His generosity, kindness, and love for his community will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
