CHAS supports many local charities who serve Calgary children and families in need. Being part of CHAS has allowed me to learn about these local charities and how they work tirelessly to improve the outcome of their lives.

In 2015, I had just moved to Calgary from Toronto and met some of the CHAS members’ daughters for the first time. One year later, we would start CHAS Next together.

Liette Desrochers - I have been a member since 2010. CHAS is run by a group of 75 volunteer ladies who are dedicated to helping and improving the lives of children and families in need. Over the last 10 years, I had the opportunity to work on several of our fundraisers, such as our Annual Golf Tournament and our Bridge Luncheon, assuming a variety of roles. It is a pleasure to work with our volunteers who are very enthusiastic and always so reliable and generous with their time.

Julie-Anne Cleyn - I've been involved with CHAS Next since the beginning in the fall of 2016. We had our first meeting at the Phil and Sebastian in Mission :)

A favourite CHAS fundraiser is Woman2Warrior 2015 - 2017 (a women’s obstacle race for Easter Seals Alberta and CHAS). In 2015, I had just moved to Calgary from Toronto and met some of the CHAS members' daughters for the first time. One year later, we would start CHAS Next together. In 2017, as a CHAS Next team, because there are firefighters at the event every year, we dressed up as firefighters ourselves!

I also enjoyed Woman2Warrior because it benefited Easter Seals Alberta, and my cousin's cousin attended Easter Seals' Camp Horizon in Bragg Creek before he passed away in 2017, so I have a personal connection to the cause.

A favourite volunteering activity is the Ronald McDonald House Charities' Home for Dinner Program. In the program, volunteers cook a home-cooked meal for families who are spending long and emotional days at the hospital. We prepared French toast for breakfast. I enjoyed this activity because I care deeply about this cause.
